EDP connects first phase of 130 MW
1 May 2007
Portuguese utility Energias de Portugal (EDP) has connected the first 12 MW phase of its 130 MW Montes de León wind complex in the Spanish province of León, in the north-central region of Castile and León. The first phase uses 14 Gamesa 850 kW turbines. EDP's renewables affiliate, Neo Energía (NEO), says three further phases are under construction, with a fourth lined up, all to be completed this year. Spanish manufacturer Ecotècnia is supplying 62 of its 1.65 MW turbines for the next phases, while contracts for an outstanding 16 MW are still to be finalised. NEO currently operates 1717 MW of wind capacity, more than 1000 MW of which is in Spain. In Castile and León, it already operates 300 MW and says it has another 300 MW in the pipeline for the region.
