Zulu centre and school to get power help from wind turbine
1 June 2001
A South African school in the Zulu region of Khwzi Zabantu is to get power from a 100 kW turbine being donated by its German manufacturer, Fuhrländer. Around 1200 children attend the school but the weak power network and the old 11 kV transformer are often inadequate to cope with demand. The school premises have also become a centre for education on AIDS, a meeting point for people from the region and a popular venue for Zulu weddings with up to 5000 guests. The turbine will help to secure the future power supply of the school, Fuhrländer says.
