Green beer in Colorado

New Belgium Brewing Company of Fort Collins, Colorado, announced on February 25 that it had become the largest private customer of wind power in the US, a vote of confidence that ensured its beer would be green in plenty of time for St Patrick's Day, one of America's most boisterous and boozy celebrations. The brewery says it will buy the equivalent of the electricity it consumes from Fort Collins Utilities (FCU) for the next ten years. The green power will cost more than utility power. To help meet New Belgium's demand, a 660 kW wind turbine will be built next fall at the Platte River Power Authority wind site near Medicine Bow, Wyoming. The decision came after a unanimous vote by the 70 brewery employees, says the company. New Belgium is a small "craft" brewer of Fat Tire Amber Ale and other beers.
