A 30 MW wind farm of 20 GE 1.5 MW turbines, being developed by Japan Wind Development Company (JWDC) in Aomori Prefecture in the eastern part of Japan, is about to come online. Rokkasho-mura wind farm will be run by a subsidiary of JWDC and the electricity will be sold to the local utility, Tohoku Electric Power Company (TEPC). Meanwhile, TEPC is expected to announce shortly which companies have been selected to supply a combined total of 90 MW of wind power. The utility issued a tender for wind projects with a rated capacity greater than 2 MW. Contracts will run for 17 years and the upper limit for the price of electricity generated is around ´10/kWh ($0.09/kWh).
