The 2 MW "semi-offshore" turbine to be built at La Rochelle is proving to be a popular form of investment. Crea 2000, the organisation which grew out of La Rochelle University, hoped to raise at least 20%, or EUR 200,000, of the finance it needed before borrowing the remainder. When its appeal for investors closed in December, it had raised EUR 253,000 from 89 shareholders. A majority of them (60%) were not locals but distributed across 31 other départements of France. A new appeal to enable more individuals to take a stake in the project is to be made this year, but without publicity so as not to become subject to stock market regulations.
