Natcon7, a Nordex subsidiary, is developing virtual power plant portals specifically for decentralised energy management. "With this new system our customers can operate a geographically widespread plant mix comprising wind, hydro, solar, biomass, fuel cell or geothermal plants in a virtual power plant," says Natcon7's Dirk Adam. The aim is to reduce manpower and computer equipment costs by enabling complete automated control from one central point. Initial calculations by the company show that the automated solution via the wind farm portal "would result in a cost benefit of about 25% and could be amortised within as little as one year."
