Dutch wind project developer WinWind -- about to start site work on its largest project to date -- has been acquired by sustainable project developer Econcern. Employing around 400 people across ten countries, Econcern is the holding company of a series of Dutch renewable energy companies: Ecofys, Evelop, Ecostream and Ecoventures. The WinWind acquisition includes a wind project portfolio of around 300 MW across the Netherlands and the UK. "The market for wind energy is growing strongly, at 43% last year," says Econcern's Dirk Berkhout. "Thanks to the acquisition of WinWind, we are able to strengthen our team of experts and our project portfolio, thus further solidifying our leading position in the development of wind energy projects throughout Europe." Comprising 22, 2 MW machines supplied by Danish manufacturer Vestas, WinWind's latest project is a 44 MW wind farm located in the industrial area south of Terneuzen at Wind Park Koegorspolder. It is due to be operational in June 2007.
