Spanish power company and leading wind power developer Iberdrola has entered the UK market with the purchase of two projects totalling just over 20 MW. It acquired the 18 MW Clachan Flats development near Cairndow in Argyll and Bute from AMEC Wind Energy and the 2.55 MW Darracott project in Devon from West Coast Energy. Both are due to begin operating before the end of 2007. The acquisitions are Iberdrola's first step towards its aim of reaching 200 MW of installed wind capacity in the UK by 2011. The group's British arm, Iberdrola Renewable Energies Ltd, is based in Solihull in the West Midlands.
