Construction start on second commercial wind station

Construction is expected to begin this month on Norway's second commercial wind farm, consisting of five NEG Micon 750 kW wind turbines at Haroy on the island of Sandoy, More og Romsdal, confirms NEG Micon. The project developers, Langland & Schie and Per Meyer Industri, say work should be completed by the end of September, according to the Trondheim newspaper, Addresseavisen. The developers are quoted as saying the contract is unlikely to be a money spinner, but it is seen as a basis for profits in the longer term if wind power ever does take off in Norway. When complete, the project will bring Norway's total installed capacity to 12.75 MW. The country's first wind farm was commissioned a year ago (Windpower Monthly, September 1998).
