Minnesota deal boosts NEG Micon sales
1 August 2003
NEG Micon sold 17 more turbines to private developer G. McNeilus Corporation, which will be installed by the end of this year at two Minnesota wind projects. The sale includes 11, 1.5 MW turbines and six, 1.65 MW machines, which will increase the combined size of the two McNeilus projects, located about 15 miles apart near the communities of Dodge Center and Adams, to 65.8 MW. The deal brings total sales for NEG Micon North America this year to about 172 MW at six wind projects. In May, the turbine manufacturer sold 45, 1.65 MW turbines to Zilkha for its Blue Canyon Wind Farm in Oklahoma, the first use of the turbine model in North America. Only GE Wind Energy and Vestas have more turbines going up this year in the US. According to Michelle Montague of NEG Micon, the turbine maker is meeting its internal sales expectations in a relatively lacklustre year for the US wind industry. She also says the company will open a new service centre in Minnesota. It now has service centres in California, Iowa, West Virginia, Wyoming and Illinois, and plans another in Oklahoma.
