An endowed chair in environmental studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara has been created with a gift from Jim Dehlsen, chairman emeritus of Enron Wind Corp and his wife, Deanna Dehlsen. At least $350,000 must have been donated to create The Dehlsen Chair in Environmental Studies, but the university has been requested not to specify the amount concerned. The gift will be used to enhance the campus' expertise in policies and practices that promote long term environmental health and sustainability of the planet. The university's environmental studies program, founded in 1970, is one of the most respected in the United States. Dehlsen founded Zond in 1980 and it has since become the largest US wind company. At the start of this year, Zond was bought by US energy giant Enron Corp.
