Assessment of wind power potential

The Zagros Group, an Iraqi company active in construction, energy, air services and trading, has been selected to assess the wind power potential in northern Iraq following an international call for tenders by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Zagros will carry out detailed feasibility studies of selected sites in the Erbil, Dohuk and Suleimaniah regions in association with Germany's Energieteam. The two companies are also required to design suitable installations for the nominated sites. The initiative forms part of KRG's strategy to develop its infrastructure and diversify the energy sector. The development of hydro and, to a lesser extent, wind power plant, will also enable Iraq to export more of its valuable oil and gas reserves.
