New renewables minister Karia Munda displays little enthusiasm
1 March 2004
Following the departure of M. Kannappan as head of the Ministry of Non Conventional Energy Sources, the government has appointed Karia Munda as the new minister. Formerly India's coal minister, Munda is far from enthusiastic about the move, describing it as a "demotion." The wind industry is not impressed with the new minister. "This is hardly the attitude one would expect from the helm of affairs," says one industry player, who looks forward to the forthcoming general election. "Fortunately, he will not be there for a long time as the new government is likely to appoint new people."
