1 August 1996
In an example of democracy in action residents near a proposed wind farm near Durham in northern England have been balloted for their reaction to the plans -- and have voted in favour. Barningham Parish Meeting held the ballot into National Wind Power's planned 15 MW development at High Moor. They had a 75% turnout, with 56% in favour and 44% against. The parish meeting has passed the results on to the planning authority, Teesdale District Council, which expects to determine the application this month.
