Prime Minister Tony Blair has appointed high profile environmentalist Jonathan Porritt as his advisor on sustainable development. Porritt, who already advises Prince Charles on environmental issues, is to head a new Sustainable Development Commission that will report directly to Blair. The appointment should be welcomed by the wind industry and environmental organisations who have criticised Blair for being lukewarm on renewables.
