EC rules against Elsam
1 August 1996
An attempt by Elsam to get the European Commission to intervene on its behalf in a long running battle with the Danish government over decentralised private power generation has failed. Elsam is obliged by government to receive and pay a set price for all electricity generated by local power plant, such as wind turbines and local combined heat and power. The utility has long argued that there is currently an over production of electricity in Denmark and this requirement on it is an uneconomic burden. The EC has ruled that the government obligation on Elsam does not contravene European law.
