New codes for wind turbine design and installation in Japan

New codes for wind turbine design and installation in Japan are to be introduced by government by April 2007 at the latest. The government says guidelines on the strength and size of wind turbines and conditions for installing them are required following several cases of machines being significantly damaged during severe storms with heavy winds in the country. The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation is currently studying wind direction and strength for various locations. When completed, the data will be supplied to the Japanese Electric Manufacturers' Association, which will produce the new code.
