Nordex wins second wind aid contract at Zafarana
1 July 1999
The second contract has been signed for a wind power aid project at Zafarana on the Red Sea coast, and again the deal was won by German-Danish wind turbine manufacturer Nordex. Nordex is to deliver 55, 600 kW turbines to Zafarana as a German contribution to the project, set up by the country's New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), a division of the energy ministry. Germany's overseas development bank, Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau, has awarded the contract, worth about EUR 27 million. This 33 MW is in addition to a 30 MW contract awarded to Nordex by Danish aid agency Danida (Windpower Monthly, February 1999). NREA has set a target for 600 MW of wind power in Egypt by 2005, broken into two 300 MW tranches, with a request for 60 MW from five countries each.
