Lafarge Maroc, a large building-supplies company with diversified interests in the construction sector, has selected French wind-farm developer La Compagnie du Vent to supply and build a 10.2 MW farm at Tetouan in northern Morocco. The wind power station, to consist of 12 Gamesa 860 kW turbines, is being sited alongside Lafarge Maroc's new cement works and is expected to supply around 40% of its electricity needs. Construction will begin later this year and should be complete by the spring. La Compagnie du Vent previously built Morocco's biggest wind farm, the 50.4 MW Al Koudia Al Ba•da plant, also in northern Morocco, which provides about 1% of the country's electricity. The company hopes to further strengthen its position in Morocco by bidding for proposed projects at Essaouira and Tangier.
