Scale of BWEA conference suggests a maturing industry

The scale of BWEA's 25th annual conference and exhibition -- and the breadth of the proceedings -- suggested an industry that has matured into a major force in the UK energy market. With a 50% increase in delegates, and a doubling in the number of exhibitors to 101, Glasgow's Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre proved a popular venue. Some attributed the high attendance to the Scottish location. "Scotland is where it's all happening," said one delegate referring to the huge interest in development north of the border.

Despite doubling the size of exhibition space this year, stands at BWEA 25 still sold out. Among the newcomers were wind turbine manufacturers Gamesa of Spain, Repower which has linked up with Peter Brotherhood Ltd of Peterborough to sell machines in the UK, and Nordic, which is marketing a Swedish two bladed design.

On the exhibition floor and in the conference corridors, satisfaction with the event seemed almost unanimous, with several delegates commenting that it was one of the best BWEA conferences ever.
