Patent pursuit

A heavy duty helicopter was used to install this 30 kW wind turbine on the Titlis mountain in the Swiss Alps, at a height of over 3000 metres. The project, owned by Elektrizitätswerk and mountain railway company Bergbahnen Engelberg-Titlis, is part of an EU research programme into wind energy in cold climates. The turbine now supplies the valley below via an existing power cable owned by the railway company. Photo: August Pfluger
