In Cumbria, two more wind farm proposals have fallen victim to the UK's planning system. The Wind Company's planned community wind project of six 750 kW turbines at Barkin House near Kirkby Lonsdale, and PowerGen's plans for eight 1.3 MW turbines at Firbank Fell were both refused by South Lakeland District Council in December. Meantime, PowerGen has lodged an appeal against a rejection in September of a wind farm at Lowca -- also in Cumbria. Copeland Borough Council planning committee acted against the advice of its planning officer in refusing the application for a project near Whitehaven. A planning inquiry to look into the appeal is set for next month.
