Vestas to supply nine new wind farms

Vestas is to supply turbines to nine new wind farms in Italy in a deal worth EUR 89 million (DKK 660 million). The Danish manufacturer received the order via its Italian subsidiary, Italian Wind Technology, for 134, V52 850 kW turbines with an option for another 35, 850 kW and 660 kW turbines. The 114 MW order has been placed by Enel Green Power, the renewables division of the Italian utility, and will be delivered over the next two years to wind farms in Sicily, Sardinia, Basilicata and Molise. They are expected to produce around 300 million kWh a year. Over the past year Enel Green Power has expanded its activities in wind energy and with the new order aims to double its installed capacity of wind power by June 2003. Vestas' Svend Sigaard says the order was won in competition with Danish, Spanish, Japanese and German wind turbine manufacturers. The V52 is a new Vestas model.
