BIRD FRIENDLY ?

Kenetower, Kenetech's new hybrid tower type, will be installed on all Model 33M-VS turbines in a project underway in Texas. It is believed that the design is unattractive as a perch for birds.

The Kenetower: New hybrid towers will be installed on all Kenetech Model 33M-VS turbines starting with a project currently going in the ground in Texas, says the company's Bud Grebey. The so-called "Kenetower" is an unusual hybrid -- both tubular and truss construction, with a tube atop three struts. The struts are used so that the costly concrete foundation needed for a tubular tower is not necessary. Kenetech says the new design is not attractive as a perch for birds and is a better for cold weather. It can also be made for a price comparable to a truss tower.
