Customers of TU Electric, which serves the Dallas area, will be able to contribute voluntarily to the development of green power starting later this year. The utility informed Texas regulators on January 17 that it intends to set up a "ReNew Energy Fund" to allow consumers to pay extra for solar or wind power. An advisory committee is being established to help the utility on use of the fund. In other wind news, TU is also asking state regulators to approve its proposal to buy power from a delayed 80 turbine wind project to be built near Big Spring in West Texas. New World Power Corp would build the project using Enercon wind turbines. TU serves more than 5.7 million.
