UK's largest offshore project yet off coast of Northern Ireland

Three leading British wind farm developers have teamed up to develop the UK's largest offshore wind farm off the north coast of Northern Ireland. The consortium of Powergen Renewables, B9 Energy and Renewable Energy Systems was granted a site lease by the Crown Estate to conduct a feasibility study into a 150-250 MW project at Tunes Plateau, five to ten kilometres off the coast near Portstewart. The consortium was selected by the Crown Estate -- owner of the seabed -- and Northern Ireland's enterprise and trade department to proceed with the project after the Crown Estate's initial tender for the site lease earlier in the year failed to produce any suitable bids.
