French utility EDF buys Chinese credits

French state utility EDF has agreed to buy 3.6 million carbon credits annually for the next five years from China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding (CGNPH). Each credit will be the equivalent of a tonne of carbon dioxide saved by the replacement of fossil fuel generation by CGNPH's 400 MW of wind power capacity. CGNPH is also developing a 300 MW wind plant at Huitengliang in Inner Mongolia, which won a central government concession contract in 2006.
