GE Energy breaks Vestas' monopoly on turbine supply in Italy

GE Energy has broken Vestas' near monopoly on wind turbine supply in Italy. The American company reports a 106.5 MW order from Italian utility Enel. The first 57 MW is due to go up in Sardinia this year, followed by five more GE 1.5 MW turbines in 2005 for repowering an existing project in Abruzzo. The remaining 28 1.5 MW units are destined for "future projects."
