Spain's Ministry of Industry and Energy, the socialist and communist trade union organisations, UGT and CCOO, and the environmental group, Aedenat, signed an agreement in early March aimed at "fomenting renewable energy systems and energy efficiency in buildings" as part of the government's policy in battling the detrimental effects of power consumption in Spain. The accord entails the release of an ESP 16 million package to budget for publicity and media campaigns aimed at stimulating interest in alternative energy sources and power saving techniques and as a recourse for union leaders in encouraging environmental awareness in the workplace. The campaign, designed by the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE), includes a conference on alternative energy systems and power saving to be held in October.
