Green budget promise

Energy minister Emmet Stagg took the opportunity of a recent renewable energy meeting to stress his government's commitment to fiscal measures to support renewable energy development in Ireland. These, he said, were being pursued in the context of the "greening" of the 1997 national budget. Stagg was speaking at a conference in Dublin at the end of September entitled Renewable Energy -- A Commercial Opportunity in Ireland. Organised by the Irish Energy Centre and the Renewable Energy Information Office, the event was attended by a number of senior officers from the main Irish banks and financial institutions.
