Offshore eco-study complete
1 September 2000
A study of the environmental effects of offshore wind farms has been completed for the government by offshore services company Metoc. The study examined existing data and views of a large number of organisations and Metoc has produced a framework to help develop detailed, site-specific environmental assessments. The study also identifies areas where more research is needed. "Experience gained in existing offshore industries provides a wealth of data," explains Frank Beiboer from Metoc. "Other issues are unique to the industry and need further investigation. In particular, visual impact, noise and vibration effects, and the effect of operational wind farms on birds need consideration."
