An indication of the current areas of the world attracting most attention from wind developers can be seen in the sales of a leading US producer of wind energy resource assessment systems. Its sales were up by one-third in the first half of the year. More than 300 NRG Data Loggers were installed internationally in the first half of 1994, and year-to-date sales were 400 as of August 8, says Gregory Erdmann of NRG Systems Inc of Vermont. Installations have been especially strong in Europe, particularly in Spain, the UK and Italy; in South America especially Brazil; in Central America especially Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Guatemala; Japan; and in the US and Canada, especially Minnesota, the Dakotas, California and northern New England, he says. At least 100 utilities worldwide are currently using the NRG systems, says Erdmann. Sales for the second half of 1994 should be strong too, with 50 data loggers going to a government agency in India in September. Sales are traditionally higher in the second half of the year, he says.
