Akdeniz Elektrik Üretim, a subsidiary of the Agaoglu Group, has chosen Vestas to supply and install 11 of its 3 MW turbines near Mut, in Mersin province, on Turkey's south coast. The turbines are to be delivered late this year for commissioning early in 2010. The contract includes a five-year service and availability agreement. Agaoglu, which is active in construction, tourism and the service sector, decided to diversify into energy early last year with an investment of EUR 1 billion, notably in wind, hydro and solar thermal. Mut will be its first operating wind power plant. The group bought the project last year, along with another licensed project for 54 MW due for construction in 2010 near Bursa on the Sea of Marmara, plus a development stream of 150-200 MW for which it hopes to receive licences over the next two years.
