Work has begun on building Lincolnshire's first wind power project. Green electricity company Ecotricity is installing two 600 kW Enercon turbines on a water treatment site at Mablethorpe. Expected to be operational in June, they will provide enough electricity to power nearly half the households in the town. Ecotricity is building the project to meet the demand of its green consumers. "We've made our customers a pledge to build new wind turbines in response to their needs and this is the first of many wind parks to fulfil this promise," says Ecotricity's Dale Vince. "It's a testament to the viability of wind power that Ecotricity's building program is market led, without NFFO contracts or government subsidy," he adds, referring to contracts granted under the now obsolete Non Fossil Fuel Obligation (NFFO).
