California dreaming

Californians eager to do their bit to help the world's climate are now free to select an electricity supplier offering power from renewable sources of energy. Choosing green electricity need not cost them more than they have hitherto paid. For a green minded consumer, the price to "go renewable" amounts to no more than foregoing an automatic 10% cut in power prices, mandated by the state as deregulation kicked in this month. For wind the new market is still an unknown quantity, but with access to 32 million residential customers -- and green power providers springing up like weeds -- the potential to sell wind power is undeniably enormous.
