The average size of new wind turbines increases year by year. In Denmark it grew from 677 kW in 1998 to 752 kW in 1999. In Germany it was nearly 1.2 MW last year. The trend towards larger sizes is partly in anticipation of the imminent offshore market. The largest commercial turbines are rated at around 2.5 MW and 3 MW prototypes are coming.
