Sweden's Nordic Windpower chose the 2007 American wind conference to announce its launch of a 1 MW, two-blade, wind turbine into the US from a base in California. A prototype has operated for more than ten years in Sweden, but has not proved itself commercially. An attempt to launch the machine in Britain three years ago (Windpower Monthly, December 2003) failed when the British purchasing company went bankrupt. A subsequent effort was made to launch the product on the American market through a Nevada joint venture (Windpower Monthly, January 2005). Development of the turbine was financially supported under Swedish and EU energy technology programs.
