Government opposition party leader lobbied by polar bear

Conservative party leader Michael Howard was lobbied by a polar bear -- or a Greenpeace activist dressed as a polar bear -- after giving evidence against a proposed wind farm in his Kent constituency at a public inquiry. Npower renewables wants to build 26 turbines at Little Cheyne Court on Romney Marsh. Greenpeace gave evidence at the inquiry in support of the project, saying that renewable energy is vital to combat climate change and protect areas such as the Arctic. The huge low lying expanse of Romney Marsh will also be at risk from rising sea levels as Howard, who went straight from the inquiry to open new flood defences, should know full well. The four week inquiry should have been concluded, but an objection from Lydd Airport means it will have to reconvene to hear more evidence.
