Encouraging wind energy investment in Dutch market garden sector
1 September 2002
Renewable energy concern Ecofys and the Wageningen-based Agricultural Economics Research Institute (LEI) have developed a plan to encourage wind energy investment in the Netherlands' energy and space intensive market garden sector. With its high energy demands and unexploited potential for combined use of land areas under cultivation, the sector is ripe for wind energy development, say Ecofys and the LEI. Moreover, much of the market garden industry is based in wind rich areas such as the Hoek of Holland. The plan is intended to encourage market gardeners to invest in wind and outline the various strategies of wind investment, say its proponents.
