Foras Energy Inc, previously known as Difko Administration US Inc, is about to launch a joint venture with Indian firm Batliboi to form an operations and maintenance (O&M) company, administered from Bangalore. Batliboi, founded in 1892, is respected in India for its manufacturing and engineering capabilities, according to Foras. The joint venture will be known as Batliboi Foras Private Limited (BFPL). Robert Clingensmith, president of Foras, was on his third extended visit to India last month. He says BFPL's aim is to set up local O&M companies at wind farms throughout India. Later, says Clingensmith, the company will start project development. According to company literature, Foras Energy is a wholly owned subsidiary of Foras Holding A/S, "an internationally-oriented company, quoted on the Danish Stock Exchange, specialising in financing, project development and management assignments within the fields of properties, shipping, machinery and renewable energy." The literature adds that Foras Energy Inc and its subsidiary, Foras Service Corporation, have been providing management, administration and service of wind farms in California since 1988. In the 1980s Difko raised money in Denmark -- to finance construction of wind farms in the US -- from private individuals looking for tax shelter investments.
