Amsterdam project gets go-ahead

The Amsterdam-based wind co-operative Frisse Wind is planning a large wind farm in the harbour zone west of the city. The plant would consist of nine turbines with rated capacities of 500-750 kW. Bids by three wind companies to supply the wind technology are being studied. The site has long been earmarked for wind development, but city planners had effectively blocked progress by demanding that any wind turbine should have a height of less than 22 metres. This planning anomoly was recently corrected by the city council -- unanimously
