Turbines selected for 20 MW in Honshu

German turbine manufacturer Repower Systems says it is supplying 10, 2 MW units for the Hyogo wind farm being developed by Kanden Energy Development on the main island of Honshu. While its Japanese sales partner Meiden says not every aspect of the deal has been finalised and thus refuses to comment, Repower says there may be an option for two more turbines. The nacelles will be built in Germany and shipped to Japan, while the towers are being built in Korea. Installation is scheduled to begin late this year, with completion in early 2008. To date, the Repower/Meiden partnership has supplied 43 turbines in Japan totalling 65.5 MW.
