A Gloucestershire local authority has been inundated with some 4000 letters about a planned wind power project. According to Stroud District Council's planning officer John Balfe, around 3000 letters support the application for four 600 kW Enercon machines at Lynch Knoll, Nympsfield, while just under 1000 oppose the plans. Most of the letters -- both for and against -- are of a standard format, says Balfe. The overwhelming response in favour of the project results from developer Next Generation's "Empower" campaign to motivate support for wind energy in Gloucestershire. The campaign aims to achieve 10% of the county's electricity from wind by 2005. As well as leafleting homes in the county, Next Generation launched a website in February to allow people to ask questions and express their opinions.
