Pfleiderer Wind Energy has commissioned Euros Entwicklungsgesellschaft für Windkraftanlagen to develop the rotor blades for its 5 MW turbine using specifications by engineering company Aerodyn. Euros, based in Berlin, is "flexible and competent" according to Tobias Eifert from Pfleiderer. The company expects to install its prototype 5 MW unit in the first half of 2003 and is negotiating with the German ports of Wilhelmshaven, Bremerhaven and Cuxhaven over potential sites. The choice of location will also signal where Pfleiderer is likely to manufacture its offshore turbine, close to a port for ease of transport. Pfleiderer has an exclusive contract with Aerodyn for use of Aerodyn's Multibrid technology for the 5 MW unit.
