The oil and gas multinational company Total has inaugurated its first wind farm at its Les Flandres refinery in Mardyck, part of the port of Dunkirk. The electricity produced will be sold to Electricité de France. The 12 MW wind plant cost EUR 15 million and consists of five turbines from three manufacturers: two Vestas 2 MW units, two Nordex 2.5 MW machines and one GE Wind 3 MW machine. Total intends to compare the makes of turbine before it creates further wind farms offshore. The company says it is committed to helping France and other EU member states to reach their renewable energy targets.
