Repowering German project with REpower prototype

Hamburg-based REpower Systems is deploying the prototype of its 2 MW machine in its first repowering project in Germany. At a site in Bosbüll in Schleswig-Holstein it will replace five older 250 kW turbines with three large turbines, one of which is the new MM70 2 MW unit with a rotor diameter of 70 metres. The other two will be 1.5 MW MD 70 turbines. "We see enormous growth potential in repowering, especially for the multi-megawatt class of machine," says chairman Fritz Vahrenholt, referring to "mature" markets like Germany.
