A Welsh utility is applying to build a £20 million wind farm near Merthyr Tydfil in Mid Glamorgan. South Wales Power -- a wholly-owned subsidiary of SWALEC -- hopes to install up to 40, 500 kW turbines on Gelligaer Common. The site already has two contracts under the latest round of the Non-Fossil Fuel Obligation. In addition, SWALEC has another six contracts for four more sites. The company has already applied for planning permission to install 41 wind turbines at one of these -- Cilciffeth in Dyfed.
