Vestas discusses Scottish shipyard base

Google Translate

Negotiations are well advanced between turbine manufacturer Vestas and the Campbelltown Shipyard in Kintyre for a Scottish wind turbine manufacturing base for the Danish turbines. An announcement is expected in late summer that most of the components that make up Vestas machines -- except the blades -- will be made at the site. Closure of the shipyard in 1998 created an unemployment blackspot. Discussions have been taking place for over a year with turbine manufacturers to establish manufacturing in the area. The initial spur to involve Campbelltown in the wind business came from a proposal by ScottishPower for a wind farm at Beinn an Tuirc on Kintyre. Commenting on the rumour of an announcement soon, ScottishPower's Alan Mortimer says: "We believe there is a unique opportunity there because of a combination of local skills and the location, given the excellent sea access."
