Windburgers are to become a fast food product at the McDonalds restaurant in the town of Trollhättan. Owner Jan Brittelund has applied for permission to erect a 500 kW turbine nearby and close to the main E6 trunk road. During the years McDonalds has been criticised by environmentalist for their abundant use of disposable containers. Now the company is working hard to improve its green profile through TV-commercials and the use of biodegradable materials. The wind project, however, is a purely local initiative. If Brittlelund is granted planning permission he says his will be the first wind powered hamburger restaurant in the world -- or at least the first McDonalds restaurant.
