Eurus looks to home market planning 26 MW

Eurus Energy, a global wind farm developer majority owned by Tokyo Electric Power Company, is now paying attention to its home market. Eurus is in the early stages of planning a wind farm near Izu City in Shizouka Prefecture. A meeting was held to explain the plan to residents early last month. The company believes the site may accommodate 13, 2 MW turbines. A formal report on wind conditions will be completed next month. Work on site may start as early as May with a launch by December 2011. Izu's mayor, a vocal supporter of renewable energy, has expressed confidence that the wind farm will not be opposed by local residents since the closest residences are located 1.1 kilometre from the planned site. Still, because Izu is an area renowned for its natural beauty, objections may be raised on aesthetic and conservation grounds.
